Zhongnong Boding Launches 1,000 HP BD10002-10HV Tractor with In-House HMCVT Drivetrain

Chinese agricultural machinery manufacturer Zhongnong Boding Intelligent Equipment has unveiled the BD10002-10HV, a 1,000 hp tracked articulated tractor, at the China International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition in Tianjin on October 26, 2026. The machine represents an ambitious entry into the ultra-high-power agricultural tractor segment, combining a manufacturer-developed engine with a hydro-mechanical continuously variable transmission (HMCVT). The company positions the tractor for demanding large-scale agricultural operations, particularly in northern and northeastern China.

The BD10002-10HV is equipped with the Boding Power 6BD57 engine, delivering a claimed rated output of 735 kW, equivalent to approximately 1,000 hp. Its articulated chassis incorporates 915 mm-wide tracks, while maximum drawbar pull is reported at 320 kN. Additional specifications include a 7.5-metre turning radius, a 3,000-litre fuel tank and six electronically controlled hydraulic outlets. According to the manufacturer, both the engine and HMCVT transmission have been developed internally, reflecting a broader strategy to reduce dependence on externally sourced high-performance driveline components. The tractor is expected to begin large-scale field validation in Heilongjiang by the end of October.

Beyond its impressive specifications, the BD10002-10HV illustrates an important development in China’s agricultural machinery industry: the emergence of manufacturers seeking to master complete high-power tractor architectures rather than relying primarily on imported technologies. Zhongnong Boding is leveraging industrial expertise in engines, transmissions, hydraulics and electronic controls to expand its agricultural equipment capabilities. However, the machine’s long-term competitiveness will depend on demonstrated field reliability, manufacturing scalability and operating economics, none of which can yet be independently established.

Bottom Line: Zhongnong Boding’s 1,000 hp tractor signals China’s growing ambition to compete in the most technically demanding agricultural machinery segments, with proprietary driveline technology potentially becoming as strategically important as maximum horsepower.
