Massey Ferguson Details MF SB.1436DB Single-Row Chute Upgrade for More Efficient Bale Collection

Massey Ferguson has released further details of a hydraulic singulation chute developed for its MF SB.1436DB double small-square baler, following the attachment’s public display at Farm Progress Show 2026 in September. The system addresses a specific bottleneck in commercial hay production: collecting the two small square bales produced simultaneously by the machine. Instead of leaving them in two parallel lines, the new attachment arranges them into a single row for subsequent collection.

The chute uses hydraulic actuation to advance one bale and then the other, with adjustable paddles to accommodate different bale lengths. A trailing frame with caster wheels and suspension follows changes in terrain, while a hydraulic lift raises the attachment for road transport and service access. Massey Ferguson says the arrangement can reduce bale collection passes by up to 50% compared with the alternative double-wide chute, depending on collection methods. The system is reported to be available on 2027 double-baler models.

The engineering change is modest compared with introducing a completely new baler platform, but it addresses the economics of the full harvesting workflow rather than baling throughput alone. Commercial operators evaluate equipment by the labour, travel and handling required to remove finished bales from the field. The attachment illustrates how a targeted upgrade can increase the value of an established product without redesigning the machine itself.

Bottom Line: Massey Ferguson’s new chute targets the often-overlooked logistics following bale formation, showing how incremental equipment upgrades can improve whole-operation efficiency.
