Maître Introduces Orion Manure Spreader Range with Redesigned Construction and Optional Precision Application Technology

French agricultural machinery manufacturer Maître is preparing to replace its established Vulcain manure spreader series with the new Orion range, combining a redesigned machine architecture with improvements in manufacturing efficiency, maintenance accessibility and application control. Presented at Sommet de l’Élevage 2026, the new generation is expected to cover capacities from 6 to 20 m³ as the product family expands. The Orion 170, with a capacity of 17 m³, was among the first models showcased. Commercial availability across the new range is planned during 2027.

The Orion series incorporates several mechanical changes intended to improve durability and simplify production. A revised upper reinforcement structure increases body rigidity, while the floor conveyor receives a larger drive shaft, increasing in diameter from 45 to 60 mm, and independently mounted drive bearings. The hydraulically operated conveyor uses two marine-type chains and solid tubular slats spaced at 40 cm intervals, supported by spring-based shock absorption to reduce stress peaks. A repositioned front hydraulic assembly improves access for servicing. Interchangeable spreading units remain a central feature, including twin vertical beaters and a high-output spreading table capable of distributing material across widths of up to 20 metres.

Precision application is another development area for the new range. Maître offers optional dynamic weighing technology supplied by Topcon, using load sensors to monitor the material carried by the spreader. ISOBUS-based control is also available as an option. These features could help operators manage manure application more consistently, particularly in contracting and machinery-sharing operations where different materials, fields and application requirements must be accommodated. Alongside these electronic capabilities, the redesigned spreading components aim to maintain effective material distribution as wearing parts age.

Bottom Line: Maître’s Orion range illustrates how manufacturers of conventional manure handling equipment are combining mechanical redesign with precision application technologies. The strategic value lies in reducing manufacturing and maintenance complexity while offering farmers and contractors greater control over organic fertiliser distribution, an increasingly relevant factor in nutrient management and operating efficiency.
