Zunhammer Moves Beyond Slurry Application with ZUNI-RAIN Precision Irrigation Platform

Zunhammer is extending its liquid-management expertise into crop irrigation with ZUNI-RAIN, a new platform developed primarily around the requirements of vegetable production. Rather than relying on conventional long-range water distribution, the system uses a field boom to place water more directly and uniformly across the crop. The approach is intended to improve control over application while limiting unnecessary water losses, positioning the machine for production systems where irrigation efficiency and crop uniformity can have a significant influence on both yield and operating economics.

The development is particularly notable because it takes Zunhammer beyond its traditional specialization in slurry handling and nutrient application. The German manufacturer has built much of its technology portfolio around accurate liquid distribution, including ISOBUS control, Section Control, application mapping and nutrient sensing. ZUNI-RAIN effectively transfers part of that engineering competence from managing liquid nutrients toward managing water, opening an adjacent machinery category without requiring the company to move far from its established expertise in pumps, tanks, distribution systems and electronic application control.

The timing also supports the interpretation that this is a genuinely new initiative. No meaningful historical references to ZUNI-RAIN emerge before the current launch cycle, while the Zuni-Rain trademark was filed in the European Union on August 20, 2026 specifically across agricultural machinery, spraying booms and towable application equipment. That combination of new branding and a new application area suggests Zunhammer is testing whether its precision liquid-management capabilities can address a broader market increasingly shaped by water availability and irrigation efficiency.

Bottom Line: ZUNI-RAIN matters less as another irrigation implement than as a portfolio-adjacency move by Zunhammer. The company is taking technology and engineering capabilities developed around slurry and precision nutrient application and redirecting them toward water management. If ZUNI-RAIN develops into a broader product family, it could mark the beginning of Zunhammer’s expansion from precision nutrient management into precision liquid management more broadly.
