Pöttinger may be showing one of the clearer early signs that the European agricultural machinery downturn is beginning to stabilize. The Austrian manufacturer closed FY2025/26 with revenue of €485 million, up 5% from €461 million a year earlier and reversing two consecutive years of contraction following the exceptional €641 million peak reached in 2022/23. Revenue therefore remains well below the cycle high, but the return to growth suggests that Pöttinger may have moved beyond the lowest point of its recent demand correction.
More significant than the headline growth rate is the performance of Pöttinger’s core grassland business. The company says market shares remained high and increased further in haymaking equipment and loader wagons, indicating that part of the revenue improvement may reflect competitive share gains rather than market recovery alone. The export ratio remains around 90%, with France and Germany among the largest international markets, while Austria delivered above-average year-on-year growth.
Pöttinger is also continuing to invest through the downturn. Employment remained broadly stable at around 2,100 people, while the company is expanding its Taufkirchen global parts logistics centre and maintaining a broad product-development pipeline across seeding, tillage, grassland equipment and digital technology. Management nevertheless remains cautious: early signs of market stabilization are now being challenged by widespread European drought and weaker crop yields, which could again constrain farmers’ investment capacity.
Bottom Line: Pöttinger’s 5% revenue increase does not yet prove that the European machinery market has entered a new upcycle. But after a roughly 28% revenue contraction from €641 million in FY2022/23 to €461 million in FY2024/25, the return to €485 million — combined with reported share gains in core grassland categories — provides a credible early turning-point signal. The next question is whether Pöttinger is recovering ahead of the market or whether broader European demand will begin following the same direction.
